After a few days relaxing and sightseeing in glorious Lincoln, Thursday was soon upon us. We arrive early and take a wander around the field to get our bearings before all the clamour of the festival got underway. The press facilities were excellent, rooms to chat to the bands and a terrace outside, which proved more popular for talks, as the weather was dry and full of sunshine for the majority of the time.

Over these past weeks I feel like I’m following in the footsteps of many bands and MAD HAVEN are one of them. These young hopefuls from North Wales are storming across the country at the moment and today they had the privilege of opening slot on the main Kilmister stage.
New single ‘Get Lost’ got the audience in festival spirit straight away.

Over on the Southall Lawless stage, which is situated right up next to the main one, THE CITY KIDS dealt us their post punk, raw tongued, rock and roll. Rob Lane did an amazing job standing in and wore an infamous ‘Who The F**k is Berty Burton’ shirt, just to ensure the missing bass player appeared in one guise. After four dates supporting Nashville Pussy, the performance was jam packed with our favourite songs and Danish guitarist Dennis Post was truly on form. Love watching JJ Watt belt out his tunes with such a laid back attitude and the band were seen around the place afterwards, before Dennis was raced back to the airport.
New single ‘It Should Have Been You’ is out now.
Swiss rockers DAXX AND ROXANE followed, as we shuffled back to the front of the Kilmister, no clashes at Call Of The Wild which is something more festivals should try.
Another band rising up the popularity ranks, the four guys are based in London and have been delighting us with their nonstop energetic shows for a while. There’s nothing like seeing vocalist Cédric Pfister swish his immaculate locks to ‘Ticket To Rock’ or be stunned at how guitarist Cal Wymann can still play while racing across the floor, jumping over Simon and jumping off any object in his path!
Thirty minutes is never a long enough set and the guys were brilliant for their first outdoor festival this year.

Another band I’ve seen a lot recently is REVIVAL BLACK and I never tire of them. Plugging the new album ‘Under The Light’, which is set for release on August 26th, they are also constantly on the road at the moment. Dan Byrne is a charming frontman and takes time to enlighten us with everything that’s happening with the band. On lead guitar Alan Rimmer is always engrossing to study and alongside Adam Kerbache on rhythm, they create finely crafted duals. A popular band with a large fan base, they knocked it out the show ground this evening.
On the other hand, I haven’t seen GIN ANNIE for a while. Vocalist David Foster and his cuz Byron Garbett on guitar, join us at 8pm for another round of their heavy, melodic style of rock. By the amount of Gin Annie T shirts in the vicinity, you are reminded just how far these lads have come in the last couple of years. Up on stage they brighten the atmosphere with frenzied tracks off the debut album ‘100% Proof’ and newer singles ‘Devil In Me’ and the stupendous ’Jealousy’.
My van must be permanently in the rear mirror of the SOUTH OF SALEM tour bus, having see them about four times in as many weeks. A band that I predicted would be on every festival bill this year are now proving me right. From the Bournemouth area, these five individuals are whirling like a tornado across our land and nothing is getting in their way. A blend of goth horror and doom, but with melodic chorus’s that you have to join in with, they have something different to offer. The live show is full of movement, starting with Let Us Prey with 2 masked dancers dressed as cheerleaders.
The front line standing on risers so we get a better view, before being summoned to get clapping and singing. Pyros were let off throughout this set as darkenss drew in.
Frontman Joey Draper stands on the barrier to conduct us and we can’t resist his commands. They are beginning to get headline shows and I’m sure a full headline tour won’t be long in the making.
Final act today is the jaw-dropping band THE TREATMENT who have just pulled off eighteen gigs in the same amount of days, for their ‘Devil In the Detail’ tour. And you know what, you would never guess it, they are as fresh as daisies and pumped to the hilt to be here tonight.
The Treatment offer no frills, no nonsense, just pure unadulterated rock and roll as it should be. You can see how much the band love to play live at every show they do, full of smiles and tons of energy. Many from the last album and a few older numbers, highlights have to be, ‘Wrong Way’, 'Devil In The Detail', ‘Shake The Mountain’, ‘Luck of The Draw’ and ‘Get The Party On’ - where Tag could be found in his usual spot the crowd not missing a note as he was raised onto shoulders and carried through the audience. Tom thanks the audience for attending gigs and smaller festivals supporting upcoming bands and events, who are our future in rock and live music, rather than spending £100's on the likes of A list bands and festivals.
The AC/DC style of blasting out simple, yet unforgettable crowd pleasers goes down exceptionally well tonight as the field is still packed right up to the end. This band always make time for their fans off stage too, happy to chat and have endless photos taken.

It’s the end of the first day and I can only offer my praise for organiser Raz White and his team. A brilliant start to the festival and we are fully prepared for the remaining three days. It’s time to weave around the streets of Lincoln back to the hotel, soak up the days events and prepare for tomorrow.
