1st band today is on stage 2 and called Funeral Witch Blues, it was lovely to see Pip Sampson back on some drums. A wonderful 3 piece band of two guitars and Pip on drums. The guitarists both have wonderful singing voices and one played a harmonica so well, I was going to try and explain the sound and liked what they have on their Instagram page, Whisky soaked stoner riffs with a chase of psychedelic doom blues. A fantastic band to start the final day before we either stay Doom/ Stoner or become Vikings, Grandmas not sure which way to go so might do a mixture.
Band 2 is Dead Monarchs, 4 members on stage, 3 guitarists and the drummer, described as heavy riff and roll. The singer had a good strong voice that Grandma enjoyed listening to, the audience enjoyed the performance, lots of heads moving to the great beat and it was again fun to see the interactions between the audience and band members. Loved that a drum stick went flying backwards out of the drummers hand when playing and the fun that caused. Overall loved the performance and would go and see them again.
Next on was Son of Boar, a new band to Grandma, a band started in 2017 from Bradford and with a sound of barbaric doom, 5 members on stage, 3 guitarists, the drummer and a singer. The singer’s voice was magnificent, strong, low and with a perfect tone and hypnotic, it worked well with the sound from the 3 guitars and drums. Overall Grandma was impressed with them and although not a style she would normally listen to, she would go and see them again.
Next on stage 2 was Red Spektor a band from Stoke on Trent that she would class as psychedelic rock, an energetic band of 3 who had amazing guitar and drumming skills also a singer with a fab voice. The singer was the lead guitarist and he had some wonderful guitar solos. Grandma was impressed by this band and would definitely listen to them again. The audience started small for this band but 2 songs in, it had significantly increased.
Next on stage 2 was Master Charger established in 2006 and from the West Midlands. 3 people on stage and again the singer had a fantastic voice; he also played the lead guitar with great skill, great work also from the bass guitarist and drummer. This was definitely a band with a heavy guitar sound and very enjoyable. Grandma moved to stage 1 to watch Waylander and loved everything about this 7 piece group including the fiddle and penny whistle. She would class them as Pagan folk rock. Definitely worth a listen/watch if you have never seen them before. Grandma brought a CD and T-shirt.
The last band Grandma listened too was Skalmold, a band from Iceland. Grandma did not take many notes as she was enjoying herself a lot, sorry, 6 men involved, 4 playing guitars, 1 drummer and a cheeky keyboard player. If I say kilts, topless and shoeless you will probably get the picture of why Grandma didn’t take many notes lol. The music was loud, fast and enjoyable. Every single member of the band could sing and added a full vocal range to the performance; a special mention should be given to the drummer who sang a wonderful solo section. This was a fantastic band to end Hard Rock Hell Spring 2 Break 2025 in Great Yarmouth and tickets already booked for 2026.
Grandma loves Hard Rock Hell events, it’s nice to hear/see the famous bands but how do you know who is up and coming? You have to listen to the new bands; you might hear the next amazing band that makes it to the top.
When booking the events I don’t look at who’s performing, I go with an open mind and enjoy the atmosphere, meeting my friends, making new, drinking some alcohol, and having a wonderful relaxing time away.
