Grandma Loves Rock

Grandma Loves Rock has made it to Friday at HRH Spring 2 Break

Two stages on today and I think I will spend it mostly at stage 2.

1st band is Chaos Bleak from Nottingham, who play on a 90’s electro Goth backbeat, 2 members on stage as the bass player is unwell. The singer had a good voice and the guitar player could sing as well. Not Grandmas taste but she can’t deny they can play and sing, they sounded a little bit like they had a Black Sabbath influence going on. A lovely gentler start to a day of music.

2nd band for stage 2 was Toranaga 5 members, a great singer, drummer and 3 guitarists. Grandma liked this band, she thought, thrash with a hint of punk, not normally what she would listen too but these were great, great lead guitar work and fantastic drummer, Grandma really liked a song called “Sword of Diamonds”. Would Grandma go and see them again, yes.

3rd band Grandma listened to was called Bare Knuckle Asylum, She wanted to watch them as she had met a member of the band the day before, and really liked his friendly attitude, he was very approachable and reminded her not to judge a book by the cover, away from this environment he might have seemed scary but that was not the case, Grandma would have been completely wrong. Now onto the music, the band has 5 members, the singer with a great voice and fashion sense, a drummer and 3 guitarists. The stage also included a prop covered with a blood stained cloth! The cloth was removed and a severed head was revealed. Grandma enjoyed a song called outrage, a song with meaning, a great band to listen to and enjoy. Would Grandma see them again, yes she would!

Next on stage 2 is Crooked Shapes, 3 members on stage for this band, a great sound, not many in the audience but to be honest, their loss. Grandma enjoyed this group, great lead guitar work and the 3 band members sing wonderfully together. Grandma really enjoyed the song “On the Edge” Again another band to go and see again, check them out on social media.

Next on was Neonfly, who started by saying they had technical issues but if that was the sound with tech issues they must sound insane without. Again a band with 5 members, 3 guitarists, drummer and the singer (Willy Norton) with a fantastic vocal range. The energy of the band was fantastic, the singer was on the stage, on the barrier, in the crowd, and some dancing might have taken place. The band coped extremely well with the issues and Willy adding humour and great crowd interaction to the set. The band came across as pure professionals, an artist from last night could have learnt a lot from him. Well done Willy Norton. Grandma was sad when Neonfly finished and came off stage.

Next on was Psideralica a 3 piece band that was not a band Grandma enjoyed but that was not down to the performance, just not a style Grandma enjoys, the lead singer was female, who looked and sounded great, she also used a voice distorter, the band had 2 guitar players, 1 male and 1 female. The music was just too techie for Grandma, the audience seemed to enjoy the performance and at the end Grandpa came over and said he really liked them so this is purely down to music style preference.

Last on stage 2 was Helgrind, the heaviest sounding band so far this weekend, I liked them, you couldn’t think when they’ve playing but sometimes you need that. 4 members in this band, drummer the singer and 2 guitar players. The front of the barriers crowd changed from the more mature to younger people, Grandma liked the old school sounds produced and the singer was able to do an amazing strong low growl. Grandma could not let all the young ones have all the fun so joined the front of the barrier, a great end of the night.
