Robin Bilston 2/5/22

Live Review by: DeeDee

The ‘Devil in the Detail’ tour has been Eighteen shows in eighteen days, this must be some kind of record?

We are at the Robin already for the end of tour gig, having travelled up from Swansea (show number 17) earlier, so we have time to chat to The Treatment guys beforehand and I’m amazed how relaxed they all are.

To pull off this momentous tour without mishap is a credit to all three bands, South Of Salem and Piston being the comrades throughout. There’s already a friendly and laid back atmosphere as early punters shout pleasantries from the other side of the gate, the band go down to chat with them, there are no egos with this lot. Staying over in the Robin Hotel tonight, I’m quite chilled as well, so once the interviews are done and dusted, It’s soon time to find a pew near the front of the stage.

Now appearing at nearly every festival and wowing audiences up and down the country, the Bournemouth five play 6ix tracks off their debut album ‘The Sinner Takes It All’, with perfect alignment. ‘Let Us Prey’ is an awesome introduction to the band, if you haven’t seen them before, you are spellbound from the initial chords. There is something unique and trailblazing with South Of Salem, a different approach with a goth/horror theme, that sends shivers down your body in total awe. ‘The Hate In Me’ and ‘Made To be Mine’ are sung along by the faithful followers and you can’t help but smile at the response. Frontman Joey Draper stands on the riser and nods in appreciation at the Robin audience, he knows there’s some magic in the air tonight as the band start to blast out ‘Demons Are Forever’. After the captivating ‘No Plague Like Home’ it’s time for the singalong ‘Pretty Little Nightmare’ go to the bands social pages to watch the Tim Burton inspired video, it’s glorious. Another ear splintering experience from South Of Salem, if you’ve yet to enjoy them live, do it soon, before your seat is at the back of an arena. Just look at their upcoming festivals listed on the Website, it’s endless!

Brad Newlands is back on drums tonight, he went awol in Swansea, so it’s good to see his return. A set packed with numbers from the 2019 self titled album and ‘Dynamite’ triggers the band into action. Rob Angelico leads the way as ‘Into The Night’ and the powerful, driving force of ‘Leave If You Dare’ take control.

Piston have this incredible style, a mix of bluesy and sultry rock, with the impressive guitars of Jack Edwards and Luke Allatt to round it off. The semi acoustic version of ‘Carry Us Home’ is welcomed by the enthralled watchers and in complete contrast ‘One More Day’ strikes up the pace, with it’s rousing rhythm and the as band members jostle on stage, there can only be one song left, Yes ‘Proud Mary’, the ‘Creedence Clearwater Revival’ anthem, is delivered in true ‘Piston’ fashion and the Bilston crowd love it.

Head over to the bands pages for updates, there’s an EP from 2021 worth buying titled ‘Live…If You Dare’, a six tracker that enables you to turn it up to eleven and get the whole street partying.

A Mayday bank holiday Monday and it’s party time in Bilston. After a long tour, the Treatment guys know their set backwards but they deliver it with 100% energy every time and the room is buzzing with anticipation.

Tom Rampton stands in front of us and screams into ‘Lets Get Dirty’, the last performance of the ‘Devil’ stint is underway.

Much of the brilliant ‘Waiting For Good Luck’ album is directed at us, by the twin guitars of the Grey brothers and ‘Devil In The Detail’ ushers that Rock and Roll rawness, that we love about this band. Head-banging and swaying along to every song, we are then presented with ‘The Doctor’ and ‘Lets Make Money’ both get nothing less than rapturous approval from us.

‘Bite Back’ from 2019 is a slugger and ‘Wrong Way’ is another that you find yourself singing along with.

As the night draws to a close, we see Jack Edwards (Piston) and Kodi Kasper (South Of Salem) join in for guitar solos on the appropriate ‘Get The Party On’ Joey and Brad help on vocals and now I’ve lost count of how many are on stage. Tag jumps down off the stage to do his solo from the audience, what a lovely sight. Just time for an encore and ‘Shake The Mountain’ brings the show to a close. Flippin’ awesome night, well done lads.

I don’t know many bands that have the attitude of The Treatment, total commitment every time, never fail to talk to fans afterwards and they have time for everyone. Hard working and professional in everything they do, many should take note, this is how you become loved by thousands.

As the room empties and the Rock Media UK team are some of the last to leave,(as usual) you can only smile at what we just witnessed, camaraderie between bands, fulfilled punters and a night of magnificent music.
