A band that has been pretty constant since 1987, when a bet with a promoter led to Warrior Soul being created and not long afterwards they were signed to Geffen Records. If you have followed them from the start you will agree with me, what a suitable title this is for the latest album. I can believe there have been close encounters with the law over the years, although the true meaning of ‘Out On Bail’ goes much deeper, it’s about survival and existing in this uncertain world. Outspoken and never afraid of controversy, that’s why Kory Clarke lies so close to our hearts. Warrior Soul have always been on the edge, they’re a band that spark emotions and drive their message straight into your face. Originally rugged alternative metal from New York City, these days the reformed line up also consists of artists from the UK and Scandinavia.

‘We’re Alive’ has air of trepidation and dread from the start. A sense of fear and anticipation strikes you before Kory’s rampant vocals take hold. Strumming guitars and the anger barely under control, it’s a feisty number and exactly what you would expect as an opening track.

‘One More For The Road’ grinds torturously slowly and seeps into growls and a lowly riff, while ‘Hip, Hip Hurray’ lifts itself above the cloud having more of a driving rhythm. The guitars on ‘Out On Bail’ are immensely cool, they give the title song supple ground and it’s one that rocks with a heavy swagger. There’s a nice amount of bass on ‘Cancelled Culture’ that begins as the intro, before the song swells into a full blown rocker. A devil of a groove and that chanting, only a native of New York can muster.

‘End of The World’ is another that crawls out from the darkness, it reminds me at times of ‘The Wasteland’ from 1991, it has that beautiful echo of despair. A twist on ‘YoYo’ which is a more direct hit and divine chaos appears to be the order. The last up ‘The New Paradigm’ salutes a new way of thinking, it encroaches as it spreads and being the final word, it is a message full of resilience.

Strong and as defiant as ever, Kory Clarke never fails to astound. With a band and guests, that have so much talent, this album will win over new fans and impress older ones alike.
