Album review by; Accidental Music Reviewer

Tyrannosaurus Nebulous, the hard rocking quartet from Stourbridge in the West Midlands recently released their debut album “Tyrant Lizard King” through Echoed Past Records and has already started tongues wagging throughout the UK grass roots rock scene and beyond.

This record is a big, fat calorie-laden slice of nice and sleazy hard hitting rock and roll. Heavy, gritty riffs with a relentless backbeat guaranteed to get you head bobbing and air punching through your.

Tyrannosaurus Nebulous play their updated but heavily seventies influenced style of classic rock with a real boldness and lots of heart. Their sound is brash, but has the assurance of a band that really know their rock history which they respect but still have the confidence to add their own twist and nuances to create a pounding, rocking album that will really connect with a wide audience of different ages, experiences and backgrounds.

Tyrant Lizard King has twelve quality tracks and weighs in at just over one hour in length, giving the listener plenty of “Bang for their Buck”.

These guys do not let up with the frenzied assault on your ears with a sublime collection of heavy groovy classic rock anthems. The influences they have mixed with their own style is plain for everyone to hear and just adds to this album’s appeal. Classic Lizzy, Deep Purple and some old school AC/DC which really comes out in the stand out track “Lead Foot”.

I was less than half way through my first listen when I had a real hankering to hear these songs played live. It must really be quite the experience. I am convinced these guys playing this material at festivals up and down the country will create a real buzz amongst the rock community.

All the band members contribute with some amazing musicianship, particularly the guitar playing which demonstrates a high level of technical ability and a broad display of various rock guitar playing styles. The rhythm section sounds really tight and lay down some solid, pulsating grooves on every song. The lead vocalist has an immensely strong and direct singing style which was made for classic rock. Powerful, gravelly and balanced. A class act and no mistake.

This album is full to the brim with quality classic rock gems that will satisfy all true rock music enthusiasts. There are some absolutely belting tracks on here, some of which I imagine will be released as singles in the very near future.

Opening track “Get Some” really sets the pace for the entire album and instantly lets the listener know that they are about to embark on one hell of a ride. Other stand out tracks for me at the moment are “Lead Foot”, “Deal With My Evil” and “Autopilot”, but I am sure this may change the more I listen to “Tyrant Lizard King”. All of these tracks have a stadium rock like sound with progressive elements and an all round sense of epic storytelling on a grand scale.

They even enter into progressive rock/concept territory with a suite of three songs with the album title abbreviation TLK; Part I “Extinction”, Part II “Retaliation” and Part III “Redemption”. Collectively weighing in at over nineteen minutes long and completely blowing away the listener with powerful complexities and lots of different layers which really showcases the band’s songwriting and arranging skills. These three songs are the musical equivalent of the biggest, fattest cherry you could possibly plonk on top or your already delicious dessert. The guys have really excelled themselves here.

For all rock fans out there who are currently enjoying this colossal new rock movement which shaking the musical foundations of this country at the moment, then I seriously suggest that you add this band and this album to your list because they definitely need to be included in the canon of great bands currently marching under this particular banner.

After listening to this album a few times I am now a true convert to the Tyrannosaurus Nebulous because and I am keen to hear a lot more from this band.
