Clare Free

Where Are You Now?

Review by; Danny Price

Clare Free is one of Britains’ most renowned female blues artists, with two internationally acclaimed albums already under her belt Be Who You Are From 2010 and very well received Dust And Bones from 2012. Now she is back with her brand new album Where Are You Now?

So, the album starts off with the title track Where Are You Now? A heavy blues guitar riff kicks it all off and the song just rolls on like a steady rolling steam train.

Did The Right Thing is next and straight away we are met with a great sounding harmonica intro, this being the albums only single release is a solid foundation for this album.

Scars Comes at you like a huge blues riff should, powerful and meaningful. The title of the song says it all, a nice little story of how scars can be beautiful. A nice modern blues song sung with meaning and emotion.

She Can’t Buy is probably the most stand out track on the album, this being because it’s not more of the same old blues that you might have been expecting, it’s a little pop type of number but catches your attention as soon as it starts and again the words have a great modern meaning to them. I really like this song, it somehow fits perfectly on this album.

The album rolls on with more great tunes like Gimme Rock ‘n’ Roll which does exactly what it says on the tin, it gives you rock n roll.

Let me Down has a very similar feel to She Can’t Buy. Has a really nice catchy chorus and beautiful backing vocals and smooth bass playing.

Bitch is a moody and mean sounding bluesy song with a story about two faced people, another song to which I’m sure most people can relate to.

Little Miss Jealousy is a nice little funky song, which shows good depth on the album.

The last song on the album is a blast of rock n roll, a song called Nice Girls and it is pure gritty rock n roll, a really cool number to end the album on.

Clare has quite a tour coming up throughout

2020, take a look at her dates and catch her

on the road, you won’t be disappointed!
