Wicked Stone - ‘Unchained’
Review by; Ruthii
This track is taken from the Devil In Me EP, due for release on 13 September 2019.
Unchained sees a change from the musical style we heard on their debut album Ain’t No Rest, October 2017. This progressive sound has a mature edginess that hasn’t lost any of the style we know from Wicked Stone. They have taken some time from their debut to really harness the sound. Yes, they have experienced a change of band members, but their sound is still very much there, albeit with a few modifications. It starts slow and melodic and crashes into a heavy riff. Joe Hawx sings out ‘I’ve got to be unchained’ Is this a metaphor for their new direction following somewhat of a hiatus?

This track will lend itself to a live performance, of which I am excited to see. Heavy drums and enticing guitars elevate this song during the instrumental, the heaviness punctuated by poignant lyrics which end with ‘release me from these chains’.
This track is powerful and dominant and has certainly ignited resurgence. I am looking forward to the EP release with gusto.
