The Electric Boys - The Lions Roar / Life’s Been Good
Double single review by; DeeDee
One band that are always writing, producing and releasing something to stir our hearts are The Electric Boys. The Swedes are well known for their funk rock style and have amassed a worldwide fanbase. However these days they do waver and experiment in style, as seen with Conny Blooms recent solo project ‘Game!,Set!,Bloom!’ that came out in March. This latest single is made up of two cover versions, which is an unprecedented event for these guys.
‘The Lions Roar’ is a song by the Swedish band ‘First Aid Kit’ from 2012. They are well known among Indie Folk followers and are led by sisters Johanna and Klara Söderberg, having received a lot of praise over the years, they have performed in front of Patty Smith and Paul Simon and have received awards galore. ‘The Lions Roar’ was featured on episodes of ‘Misfits’ and ‘Bones’ as the fame stretches as far as the US. The Electric Boys have taken the number and given it a rather moody and more solemn finish. Conny Bloom’s vocals are low and so warm you can feel the glow. The semi acoustic version, having the strong guitar accompaniment is like a Norse Saga put to music. Heavy, like a slow walk though the tundra, but it does sound epic and has that ability to grow on you. I like the decision to cover ‘Life’s Been Good’, which is only second in fame, to ‘Rocky Mountain Way’, when it comes to the solo work of Joe Walsh. It’s such a well written song, so the arrangement hasn’t been altered, apart from some additional guitar plucking, the band stick relatively close to the original, even having that distant echo effect on the vocals.
Always a pleasure to hear anything by the Electric Boys and this 2 track single is Ten minutes of escapism from the pressures and pains of the world right now.
