Collateral

The Cavern, Raynes Park 12/1/20

Live review by; Myk

After a busy and career progressing 2019 expanding their fanbase across both the UK and further afield, obtaining significant airplay, several high-profile appearances including a slot on the Bon Jovi cruise and a stand out performance at Ramblin’ Man 2020 could be a career defining year for Collateral with their debut album due for February release.

This is their first gig of the year in a completely packed pub venue, with a large contingent of the crowd clearly there to see them with band and NWOCR t-shirts in abundance.

The band members are happy to mingle and chat to all and sundry before taking to the stage and kicking off with the 2019 single Midnight Queen, quickly dispelling any thoughts that they might be a bit rusty after the Xmas break. They are then straight into Won’t Stop You Dreaming from the much-anticipated new album before playing Blowing With The Wind from the 2019 4 Shots EP.

We are then treated to an interlude with Todd Winger showcasing what a talent he is with little in the way of pedal effects instead relying on some great virtuoso fret work. This then drives straight into a neat cover of Sharped Dressed Man before another track from the EP, Just Waiting For You that is then followed by a trio of tracks from the new album starting with About This Boy which I can see becoming a live favourite. We’re then back into covers territory in the shape of Dead Or Alive and a superb Rockin’ In The Free World, both of these numbers prompting the crowd to sing along.

Then we get the latest single Mr Big Shot which has been deservedly getting decent amounts of airplay and allows the charismatic singer Angelo to strut his stuff. There is no hiding from their influences, not that they try to, as another Bon Jovi cover You Give Love A Bad Name allows Todd and bassist Jack to lend a hand in some lead vocal fun and games and once again allows the crowd to join in a sing along.

To finish a very enjoyable evening we are treated to Lullaby the first single released from the new album. Talking to drummer Ben before the gig and then Jack and Angelo afterwards the band are clearly excited about their 2020 prospects with the upcoming album release and a support slot with Skid Row that will take them across to Europe. Watch out for Collateral in 2020 they seem destined for greater things.
