The Outlaw Orchestra - Leo’s Red Lion, Gravesend

5th June 2021
Live review by; Myk

Once again the current saviours of live music The Rock Co-Operative organised a socially distanced event at the awesome Red Lion.

First up on the outside stage are The Karma Effect, who are performing their first live gig after forming in lockdown. You couldn’t tell, as what followed were high class slabs of classic blues rock delivered by charismatic front man Henry Gottelier, ably supported by the dynamic Robbie Blake on guitar. A five star performance makes this a band one to watch out for. Now signed to TMR Band management things are definitely on the up and hopefully an album will be in the offing before the end of the year.

Next up are The Outlaw Orchestra, a band who are difficult to pigeonhole into a specific rock genre.  Aare they southern rock, country, blues, folk or a fusion of them all? Well I don’t really think it matters, the whole vibe was fun and infectious leaving you with a seemingly compelling need to scream ‘ye ha!’ after each song.

Given how high the opening act had set the bar there was no room for complacency and they duly delivered with Ryan Smith laying down the rock steady rhythms as a platform for frontman/guitarist Dave Roux to banter with the crowd and deliver the entertainment, not forgetting the incredibly talented Pete Briley adding banjo, lap steel Guitar and tons of energy.

Highlights of the set included The Devil Made Me Do It, Back to Georgia, Rattlesnake Sour and the final crowd pleasing number Chicken Fried Snake.

Overall there was a definite deep southern rock feel to proceedings but it left huge grins on the faces of the crowd. With a new album due out in October I expect there will be plenty more opportunities to catch them live. You will not be disappointed.
