Dig Lazarus

Don’t Threaten Me With a Good Time

Album review by; PaPa Hellcat

This is an album best served live with a quick line check, dry ice and play your heart out!

Very much a live album recorded in a studio. Every song crafted for the ear holes of a packed venue or Saturday afternoon festival crowd when they are just about to fall into an alcoholic daze. Hit everything hard and heavy and take no prisoners.

This takes me back to the day when three lads would rock out in their Dad’s garage, annoying the neighbours and hoping that the rep from EMI is walking his dog past!

From the outset of Don’t Threaten Me With a Good Time the pounding drums, driving bass line and full guitar sound make you want to be in the hall with your head banging.

The worry with any bands album is can they play it live? Can they transcend the vinyl barriers and make you want to jump? Dig Lazarus does this in ‘spades’ throughout the album, so much so you will probably need a toilet break and a plastic cup of water from security.

‘Satisfied’ delivers Hard rock with a hint of the edgier side of Brit pop and the Foo’s, beating you from one side of the hall to the other.

‘Keep it Clean’ just pours out fast and lean . It's a track that I could have imagined Motörhead having great fun with and trust me that’s a compliment.

We have real anthem stuff with ‘Sky Tonight’ No Patrick Moore here but flowing lyrics and riffs with a nice heavy drum beat, could see this closing a show.

As a drummer ‘Outlaw’ sounds like great fun to play, a dirty riff packed bass banger got to be a crowd pleaser.

A touch of Deep South rock with the opening of ‘Time Froze’ a concept which we have all wanted occasionally to stop life where it is in the moment and have some stuff wiped! The lyrics sum up the ‘Seemed like a good idea at the time’ scenario and hoping for some tipex on life!

A three piece that can move through the gears on any given song , these boys give you that real rock n roll feel of an old transit van filled with gear, sleeping bags, empty crisp packets and some lite over refreshments!

Every track on the album is a new adventure but raw and in your face as good rock n roll should be. Strong melody’s and you can tell a band that is playing for and with each other- if you want to join the party then great but they are having one anyway!

Great job boys - carry on annoying the neighbours!
