Dorja – Gemini

Review by; Danny Price

Since meeting for the first time in 2016 Dorja has gone on to release a pair of singles along with a four-track EP with a few of these tracks are included on their new album Gemini. This includes Dorja’s debut single “Fire” which is the final song on the album, but no means the weakest it starts with another catchy guitar riff and more powerful vocals from Aiym Almas. Another previously released single is “Far Gone” which some fans might already recognize, this being the first track to be recorded with the band’s current line-up.

The album starts with “Chainbreaker” which has a quick fire drum fill to start, and makes a beautiful flowing opener.

Up next is “Target Practice” which again opens with this time a nice simple drum beat from Anna Mylee, the song slowly builds before an explosive conclusion, with great slide guitar work.

A bunch of songs follow this but the stand out track on this new album is definitely “Gemini” and you can see why it was chosen as the title track. This song has a great free flowing, open feel to it, created by lovely guitar and bass work intertying with each other.

Make no mistake, these girls are no novices to their occupation, between the band they have worked with some high profile names, played in some of the most prestigious venues, toured throughout Europe, played major festivals, recorded in some of the world’s top studios and appeared in numerous magazines. They know their rock n roll!

The transatlantic bond the girls have here really shines through in the music, there is not one weak song on the record, and with this band gaining momentum “Gemini” was certainly worth the wait.
