Crashdiet – Idiots

Review by; Hungryasabadger

Having heard of Crashdiet (I’ve got tickets to HRH Sleaze III in Sheffield!) but not having heard their music to my knowledge, I was intrigued to give them a whirl, especially after reading up on them via Wikipedia – a sleaze rock band from Sweden who used to have Olli from Reckless Love in their ranks? Oh go on then!

‘Idiots’ is the new single from the band’s upcoming new album Rust. The track opens with a great thudding riff akin to Motley Crue back in the late 80’s, but the biggest first impression on me was the vocals. There have been a couple of front-man changes since Olli decided to concentrate full time on Reckless Love and the latest incumbent Gabriel Keyes has a great voice and his delivery spoke to me straight away. Keyes’ voice is a mixture of John Corabi and Myles Kennedy, in my humble opinion, and is a great match for the bands sound.

I found nothing at all to dislike about ‘Idiots’. Yes their sound is derivative of other bands of the 80’s era but if you like the genre you know what to expect and also how to appreciate it when it is well executed. However, if you don’t like good old 80’s sleaze rock you are sadly in the wrong place so may wish to look elsewhere.

‘Idiots’ served as a great introduction for me to Crashdiet and immediately led to me downloading their previous effort, 2013’s The Savage Playground. You can stream ‘Idiots’ via the bands official website and Rust is released on September 13th 2019. I for one am a convert and will definitely be buying it.

Check out Crashdiet at the aforementioned HRH Sleaze III at Sheffield’s O2 Academy on 31st August-1st September. I’ll be there at the front in my battle vest! I need to look for a Crashdiet patch now….
