Neptune Rain - Chaos & Light
Album review by; PaPa Hellcat
Every band should create a vision with their music, for each the vision will be different according to their own musical journey. Simply, I could not watch Neptune Rain in a smoky backstreet boozer in Bristol on a Friday night! But that’s not what this band seems to be reaching for? More the large open air stage in somewhere like Ibiza with lasers, heat, smoke and the largest sound system that the town councillors would allow or be bribed for!
This is stadium rock with a full sound that fights between the techno and the solid guitar and bass work. It's not the usual formula of verse and race to chorus and guitar solo but almost an attempt to cross rock with the heavier side of dance plus a smattering of rap.
To seasoned old rockers ears the band know what they want to achieve and have set out a unique but not unfamiliar sound which will have cut through to several audiences. There is enough manicure for the techno crowd, plenty of movement for the dancers and bedded with enough alternative rock to fill the speakers and make heads nod.
Taste Of Air is an outstanding track which will make a good radio play with clear vocals and a reach into the heart lyrically looking for a new start.
All Pain And No Gain slides a good rap section into a driving beat and breathless vocals pushing out an urgent message. Legend brings out some great drum sounds and changes of pace that make it a tune that you are not sure where it is going until it gets there which is no bad thing.
The Weight Of Air brings back the rap verse and emphasises the back line beats, a big chorus is a sure crowd pleaser.
The album is well produced and never leaves its central mission of music for a large crowd, with a high impact and laser focus. It would not be possible to play this quietly at home, in the car or live it has to be turned right up and the needle flicking into the red zone.
Neptune Rain will be well worth checking out live and seeing how this new offering goes down on stage.
