Graces Collide  - Our Tomorrow
Album review by; DeeDee

This Brighton based band have been touring and producing excellent music since around 2008. Of course the current situation with Coronavirus has put paid to any promotional gigs, but that hasn’t prevented the release of this debut. Produced by George Donoghue (Massive, Rocket Dolls) and mixed by Romesh Dodangoda (Bring Me The Horizon, Don Broco) ‘Our Tomorrow’ was in the making for over a year and now the end package has finally been delivered.

‘This Hell’ is a tremendous, hammering of a number to introduce the album. Massive, messy riffs and clear as crystal vocals, it’s a relentless drive with mind grabbing hooks. The second track features ‘The Rocket Dolls’ frontman, Nikki Smash, lending his fine voice on this choice of a single, ‘Another Sun’. It stretches downward in spirals in a more grunge inflicted way. Heavier bombardment of stoner rock that has echoes of Stone Sour and the ‘Nebraska’ sound. The first single ‘Ride’ lightens the load a little, a fast and melodic journey, with another impeccable riff. Great guitar work is seen in a gap mid way and the fine production ensures the back line remains within hearing distance. ‘Fear Alone’ has a punishing rhythm and is a slower offering, while ‘Find Our Way’ is laden with full on vocals from Dan Wenham and some experimental tinkering, Dan also plays lead guitar.

The title track, ‘Our Tomorrow’ is more in your face grunge. It mixes Alice In Chains /Soundgarden influences with a Graces Collide overhaul and the result is 100% genius. The next track ‘Kraken’ is even more AIC, it has subtle bass by way of Jurgan Hamblin and continuing fine rhythm guitar from his twin brother Will. Dans’ vocals have to get a mention, I love his range and the way he can vary direction so rapidly. ‘Makes Me Scream’ is another round of crash and burn with gentle vocals’, while ‘Run And Hide’ despite the rawness, is softer and descends into a misty pool that just fills your mind. The album ends with ‘Come Back Down’ a lament with touching lyrics, which isn’t the strongest finish, but still ensures this is 10 tracks of blistering proportion.

My favourites have to be ‘This Hell’ and ‘Our Tomorrow’.

Really cool debut from a band that have built up a large following from recent tours. If you like your music with a bite of Stoner/Grunge rock and melodic heaviness, then Graces Collide are your saviours.
