Quick history lesson: W.E.T. are a Frontiers 'project' who have released 4 studio albums (of which this is the latest) and one live set since 2009. They could be classed as a 'Scandi' super group, based around a nucleus of Robert Sall (keyboards & guitar from Work Of Art), Eric Martensson (guitars, vocals & keyboards from Eclipse) and Jeff Scott Soto (lead vocals from Talisman), plus more Swedes in the supporting cast. With that pedigree, the signs are for a hook-laden, melodic hard rock master class, and that's just what you get.

Starting with a quick-fire drum-beat, the album opens with 'Big Boys Don't Cry', it's apparent that the guitars are going to be up front, everyone involved wants to add their vocals to the mix, and there are

melodies and hooks galore, all driven along by persistent drumming. Even when 'Got To Be About Love' starts like a ballad, it's soon pounding along with more chanting vocals, and that's basically how the album plays - it's a 'big' sound, and sounds terrific even through the small speakers plugged into my PC, let alone on the hi-fi. I could write a song-by-song run-through, but there is no point, because there isn't really a weak song on the album. With Jeff Scott Soto releasing a really good solo album late last year, and Eclipse hopefully putting out their new album later this year, it's a good time for this group of musicians, but if you only have time for one album, buy this one.
