WICKED SMILE - WAIT FOR THE NIGHT
Album review by; Accidental Music Reviewer

Blistering rock of the heaviest calibre is the name of the game when listening to “Wait For The Night”, the brand new album from Australian Metal Mavericks Wicked Smile which is released in the UK and Europe on 15th October.

From the opening track “Date With The Devil”, you have no choice but to strap in and prepare for a white knuckle ride and an overload of your senses.  This is new wave of heavy metal fused with classic hard rock in a white hot fiery runrace resulting in heart pounding and ear popping ecstasy.

These guys clearly meant business when they went into the studio to record this album.  This record is stained with blood, sweat and tears of everyone involved in making it.  The album was produced and mastered by Paul Laine and Bruno Ravel of The Defiants and Danger Danger.  Both are battle-hardened rock musicians in their own right and having them at the controls meant that Wicked Smile were in good hands.

This is heavy rock and metal of the highest quality.  This is how to blast stadium worthy rock straight into your living room.  I just hope you have understanding neighbours.

Heavy riffs and guitar hooks of the heaviest kind and earth shaking drumming guaranteed to push your speakers to the limit and glass cracking lead vocals designed to get the laziest rock fan out of their seat and up on their feet with their horns raised skyward.

When listening to this album, you cannot help but be mesmerised by Danny Cecati’s all conquering lead vocals.  He has great range, immense control and unequivocal power.  I also suspect he has an extra pair of lungs, but at the moment this remains unproven.  There will be obvious comparisons to Bruce Dickinson’s vocal style, but that is not necessarily a bad thing.  Danny’s vocals on this album have a lot more to offer than just sounding like another rock singer.  He has a delivery and vocal personality of his own and he leads the rest of the band through the eye of a rock hurricane of their own making.

The guitar playing by Steve Janevski and Dave Graham is extraordinary, these guys play their hearts out everytime they strap on their instruments.  While they are throwing out face meters and intricate licks, the rhythm section of Glen Cav on bass and Jason Tyro on drums continually bring a pounding and head banging inducing backbeat with the sole purpose of getting the listener moving.

“Wait For The Night” is an era spanning record that will appeal to devotees of the glory days of eighties heavy metal (regardless of sub-genre) and classic hard rock such as Maiden, Dio etc.  It will also appeal to the next generation of rock fans who are looking for a more glamorous and carefree sound free of restraint.  It is a fantastic collection of fast-paced melodic rock songs which will get true rock fans reaching for the largest can of hairspray available, before strapping on their air guitar of choice.

There is not a weak song on the whole album.  There are ten absolute killer tracks here which will please any genuine rock music fan.  Trying to pick out favourite tracks is very hard at the moment.  I have had trouble doing this with most rock albums I have reviewed this year and “Wait For The Night” is no exception.  However, if you are going to push me; “Stronger”, “Date With The Devil” and “Daze Of Delirium” are really speaking to me at the moment, but I am sure this may change with more (inevitable) play throughs.

All that is left for me to say is that this is an outstanding heavy rock album with a great eighties retro vibe combined with modern touches which will result in this record doing extremely well to a happy and grateful international audience.  I hereby declare myself a brand new official Wicked Smile Fan.
