I, The Mountain - Saga
Review by; Tuesday
'Metalcore for the poetic and adventurous at heart'
Saga is a robust body of work that blends the fundamentals of metal core with hints and tones of something more intricate, delicate and poetic. With a name as bold as I, The Mountain these Northmen wouldn't dare release anything that wasn't going to leave an impression.
This seven track wonder grabs you, sways you and scares you. Everything from the opening notes of Westerlands to the closing lines of The Wanderer, through to the mix and production have been lovingly considered. Every Mountain needs strong foundations and the opener to this exciting saga is as strong as they come.
Westerlands opens with the sound of sea waves and delicate rain drops building into a Gregorian like chant which is gorgeously hypnotic and captures your attention from the onset. It's beautiful and eerie at the same time, the calm before the storm of metal which follows. Imagery and storytelling are executed well throughout Saga with the use of language and tonal layers. It's a full player to be enjoyed as a whole piece from start to finish but particular praise has to go to Northmen for it's attention to character building and those satisfyingly evil cackles in between heavy riffs.
God Of A Thousand Eyes also features on this EP which is the current video single and well worth a watch. I, The Mountain stand tall and have the potential to go far.
For appreciators of aggressive metal core, daring ideas and exquisite mixing.
Fans of While She Sleeps and Architects will want to add I, The Mountain to their playlists!
