The Treatment - Waiting For Good Luck

Released 9/4/21

Album review by; DeeDee

If you have seen The Treatment live, you will know they are one of the most energetic young bands around at the moment. They have a loud and furious style that is so distinctive, the pounding riffs and high vocals give them a noise that can be heard from miles away and you still know it’s them. The latest album, ‘Waiting For Good luck’ is released on 9th April; this is the bands fifth and is the first to feature the new recruit on bass, Andy Milburn. This follow up, to the brilliant ‘Power Crazy’ of 2019, is the second for vocalist Tom Rampton, who you have to agree, has given the band a fresh identity and a worthwhile rise in attention. The album is produced by the drummer Dhani’s Dad, Laurie Mansworth of ‘Airrace’ and mixed by the legendary ‘Caveman’, Kevin Shirley, who has worked with the likes of Journey, Europe and The Black Crowes, to name just 3 of about 1000!

Already out as a single ‘Rat Race’ sums up what The Treatment are all about, swaggering rock, low on the hip, high piercing vocals and oodles of backing harmonies. With a sing along chorus ‘We’re in the Rat Race, we’re in the Rat Trap Rat Race, and there ain’t no escape’. This is pure rock and roll with a confident strut. ‘Take It Or Leave It’ has a twang of old school and a catchy rhythm, the guitar strumming drags on the floor, while Tom holds it all together with increasingly high lyrics. ‘Lightning In A Bottle’ comes in with a smooth and steady stomp. Lively and punchier in tone, it gives off a really good vibe. When I look up ‘Vampress’ the urban dictionary quotes ‘A red haired woman of the night. Usually striking in beauty and wildly erotic’ Well this track is certainly striking and wild, nonstop, pushing the wire and definitely one for the night. The album takes a turn with ‘Eyes On You’ there is moodiness and slower chords. Actually these 4 minutes are quite alluring, getting under your skin and infecting those moshing muscles.

‘No Way Home’ is another that is typical Treatment sounding, sleazy rock with guitars from the Grey brothers that never give up, full pressure and immense string bending. We reach ‘Devil In The Detail’ and the screaming continues. A lot of melody on this track and it ‘flows’ as they say. It does have a brilliant hook and gathers momentum all the way through. A bit of blues with ’Tough Kid’ which offers a timeout and the ballad soaks up a swampy attitude with Toms gritty voice. ‘Hold Fire’ lets us return to fast and boogie edged rock, ending on a crescendo of potent guitar kicking. ‘Barman’ with its screeching intro is exceptional 12 bar blues and we’re leaning on the bar with a line of shots. Full on passion and deep, so deep in fact, it must have evolved from the depths of the soul. ‘Let’s Make Money’ is an easy on the ear sounding rocker, the distinctive sound is back and it carries on with ‘Wrong Way’ which is a splendidly cool and melodic number. Extremely adhering and catchy this was another single and did get a load of airplay, probably one of the bands best songs so far. The album finishes with a bonus track as ‘Barman’ is delivered as a piano version, can it get any better?

You have to love this band; there isn’t anything bad about them. ‘Waiting For Good Luck’ is full blown rock and roll, fast nonstop enjoyment and the energy and drive from these guys is so infectious. On stage they are hard to beat for entertainment value, so watch out for them on posters, they are already headlining at the Nozfest and Gravity and Call Of The Wild festivals.

5/5
