Scarlet Rebels - See Through Blue
Album review by; The Accidental Music Reviewer
South Wales based rockers Scarlet Rebels release their sophomore album “See Through Blue” on Earache Records on 28th January as the long awaited follow up to 2019’s “Show Your Colours”.

The first five tracks have already been released either as singles or EPs which has just made the clamour to experience the new album as a whole even more fervent.

The fearless five piece form Llanelli pull no punches in delivering their own brand of red hot fuelled, no holds barred heavy rock. They produce a tsunami of sound guaranteed to knock you on your ass. These boys have classic rock foundations which have been enhanced by modern flourishes and inventive touches.

I have family connections not too far from Llanelli, so I am very aware where these guys are from and how they’ve been raised. They are from real working class stock and believe in working hard, playing hard and in Scarlet Rebels case - Rocking Hard.

Melodic, blood thumping guitars, stadium worthy Rock God vocals and face melting solos just show how good this band really is and how ready the world needs to be when this beast of an album is let loose.

Scarlet Rebels encompass the flair and entertainment of Def Leppard and Van Halen which is then anchored with gritty and hard hitting real life stories which many other rock artists tend to shy away from. Not these guys. They tell it how it is and if that is not for you, then you know where the door is.

Vocalist Wayne Doyle has a superb, powerful and emotionally charged voice. He grips each song by the scruff of the neck and elevates them to Boss Level. His bandmates play their instruments with confidence, skill and panache. The overall sound of this band really hits you hard. With this record they sound like veterans of ten albums and multiple world tours.

There are no make weights on “See Through Blue”. Every track is outstanding and more than worthy of their inclusion on this amazing collection of adrenaline fuelled rock numbers which are pure class. The band are destined to achieve a lot of recognition and rewards when this album is released.

This type of rock is played as a universal language and given the right breaks this could really raise the profile of this extremely talented band and get them the global recognition they deserve.

The songs on this record are a maelstrom of anger, frustration, resistance and determination to change their part of the world for the better.

Scarlet Rebels have crafted their own rock sound that makes them stand out from the crowd of talented bands rocking the length and breadth of the UK at the moment. This brand of music is rooted in the real world, creating hard hitting songs about life, struggles, hopes and dreams. It is played just as skillfully and energetically as the bands did in the eighties and nineties, but now there are no images of bikini clad babes dancing around a sound stage. This album conjures images of ordinary people working hard to get by. And because of this Scarlet Rebels should be applauded as true working class heroes with something important to say and still have the heavy rock credentials to back it up.
I predict that this album is going to be played to death for a long time to come. It already has a very strong pedigree and this record will be used as a high bar for other bands to measure up to if they really want to be taken seriously as true Rock N’ Roll heavyweight contenders, because this is how I would categorise Scarlet Rebels right now.

Even though we are still in January and there is a hell of a lot of 2022 to go, if there is anyone out there who enjoys a flutter, here is some advice for you. If after reading this review, you then go to your Bookmaker of choice and put a cheeky fiver on “See Through Blue” being named as the best album of the year, it would not be the craziest bet you could make. After listening to this album just twice so far, I am convinced that they are in with a shot.

When their fans begin to absorb this piece of work, whether they are loyal fans from the beginning or new converts (like me), then they will quickly realise that this album, these songs are going to be part of their lives for a very long time. And that is because “See Through Blue” is that good.
