Rock Media UK caught up with Steve Grimmett of Grim Reaper

I suppose we have to ask first of all, how disappointing was it, having to cancel the recent gig at the Iron Road in Pershore?

--Unfortunately it's all down to ticket sales these days and the fact that only 6 tickets were sold it goes without saying that club owners get nervous, but it upsets me more when we found out that over 300 people were coming but wont use the most useful thing they own in the form of a mobile phone to buy a ticket is beyond me.

Do you have any other UK dates lined up to make up for it?

--Yes we do it’s in London on 10th November at the Boston Rooms

You have been really successful in the States and Canada, touring last year, are you planning to return to the US?

--We are returning on 22nd August 2019 for 4 weeks to do it all again

Are you happy with the way Grim Reaper is progressing these days?

--Actually I am but we could all do with more but im keeping my fingers crossed

Are there any plans for another studio album?

--There is a new album “At The Gates” it’s being released worldwide on the 11/10/2019

Two of your other projects Onslaught and Lionsheart were great bands, will we hear any more from either of them?

--Yes they were great bands but alas there won’t be any more from them as I won’t work with Onslaught again and I think Lionsheart is dead and buried

I see Grim Reaper have been on the playlist for American Airlines internal flights, was that a surprise?

--A total surprise to be fair and it’s the last album “ Walking in the Shadows” so none of the early stuff, very cool

You have been involved with Satan’s Empire, helping with their new album ‘Hail the Empire’ . What part did you play in all of that?

--Not helping but recording, producing, mixing and mastering in my studio Samurai Studio in Oxford it’s been a great time to be fair they are a great bunch of guys and it’s sounding great I should be finished by the time I go on tour

It was in 1985 that the ‘Fear No Evil’ album was released, did you think Grim Reaper would still be around 34 years later?

--No never I thought I would never do it all again as no-one seemed interested and then BOOM it all happened again but better this time as back in the day we only toured the States now we go all over the world amazing

So what’s next for Grim Reaper?

--It’s just to do more of the same and as we haven’t toured in Europe that’s next on the cards along with Japan

Many thanks to Steve for the interview.
