The Dead Daisies – The Lockdown Sessions
EP review by; Myk
I am a big fan of the Dead Daisies so was swapping out John Corabi and Marco Mendoza for Glenn Hughes going to work? Hell yes, Glenn’s voice has always been good, but he seems to have gone up a level on these stripped back acoustic numbers.
A great laid back rendition of the recent release ’Unspoken’. with some superb acoustic guitar work from Doug Aldrich. Then we have ‘Righteous Days’ with the vocals climbing up and dipping down for a dramatic delivery. It’s hard to go wrong with Creedence Clearwater Revival’s ‘Fortunate Son’ but this acoustic version initially sounds a little bit restrained but wins through with another great vocal delivery.
The icing on the cake is surely the brilliant cover of Humble Pie’s ‘30 Days In A Hole’, this is just so good, dripping with emotion. I’m not sure I remember hearing Glenn sound this good. This proves once again the rock collective idea of The Dead Daisies with a steady stream of great musicians stepping in as others step out, really works. I’m now just waiting to see them live in this guise, I can’t wait.
