Grandma started by looking around at the fashion of people attended, most people are in jeans and band T-shirt but some are in kilts, hats and beautiful dresses, hair colour and styles are varied and so is age. It seems everyone is welcome at NWOCR Livefest 3 and it does not matter what you look like or what you wear.
When Grandma and hubby arrived we were greeted by the same security guard who we met yesterday and what was nice was his friendly welcome.
On stage 1st was the host Pete K Mally, he was fantastic, I loved his humour. His main request was for his favourite band to kick off day 2, so day 2 started off with… Kinstrife 3 guitars and a drummer, Grandma loved the gruffness of the lead singers voice (who played one of the guitars) and they definitely got day 2 started with a great wall of sound. Grandma loved the lead guitarist sound. Grandma liked the song “Rise and Fall” Song 3 was a sing along but it started with a technical issue for one of the guitarist, it was soon sorted by one of the stage crew, they did a great job this weekend. Would Grandma go to watch/listen to them again? Hell yes!
Next up was Tom Killner, 5 members on stage 3 guitars, one played by the singer, a drummer and a keyboard player. Grandma has seen them before and would again! This band is a mixture between southern, Country, Blues and Southern Rock. Grandma enjoyed the songs, musical sound and the singers voice. It was easy to listen to and enjoy.
Grandma enjoyed the song “No More” from the new album and “Get Back Home”. Grandma will definitely get tickets in the future.
The next band looks so young! They are called Jayler, they only got a request to perform late in the week following and band cancelling and said yes.
I’m not sure how many other young people would have had the confidence to perform in-front of a rock audience. Grandma thinks rock is safe if this is the standard of young people getting into the industry.
The band consists for 3 guitarist including the singer and drummer. The singers voice is magnificent, and they had so much energy. Grandma hopes they have a good manager to support them. As Grandma thinks they will go far. Give it a few years and they will be headline a major arena! Grandma really liked the song called “Down Below” a blues sounding song. The singer not only can sing, play a guitar but also a harmonica. Grandma is going to follow this band as she really likes their sound. T-shirt brought and photo with the band taken!
Next on, The Hot One Two. Five members in this band, not the first time Grandma has seen them and she still likes them as much as the first time she saw them. Great sound, fantastic singer and Grandma loves the faces that Kev the guitarist pulls, it made her smile.
Grandma really likes their song “You’ve Got It”. This set went so quickly, Grandma wished it was twice as long.
Next on was Black Lakes, Grandmas 1st time of seeing them even thought they started in 2018. This group consisted of five members, three guitarists, a drummer plus the singer. A heavier rock band, Grandma liked their new song called “Hurricane” The singer has a great voice and the band puts on a great stage show. They are a loud band that put on a wall of noise.
Grandma really loved the song “Dead Gods”, Grandma usually does not like the heavier side of rock music but she did like this band. Would she see them again, yes.
Next on is The Karma Effect. Grandma was impressed with the drummers dress sense, you don’t often see a drummer in a suit jacket, Grandma likes this 5 piece group, she has seen them a few times and hubby has them on Spotify, so we listen to them often. The set started with “Living It Up” a wonderful and lively song Grandma was singing along to. Grandma finds the singers voice easy to listen to and the three guitars, keyboards and drums make a great combination of sound.
Next band is a band Grandma has been waiting to see, Dead Man’s Whiskey. Grandma has heard great things about this band and she wasn’t disappointed, magnificent vocals from the singer, great guitar work and fantastic drumming. Grandma really enjoyed the song “Masquerade” The audience really enjoyed the performances, and so did Grandma.
The final band for this year was Gin Annie a 5 piece band just like Grandma loves, one great singer, one great drummer and three fantastic guitar players. Dave, the singer from Gin Annie, has a wonderful voice and great stage presence. It was also wonderful to see Dave come down to the audience and sing right in front of them, the crowd really got with him.
Grandmas stand out bands for the two days were Ransom, Virginmarys, Jayler, and Gin Annie.
Grandma can’t wait to return next year, thank you to the organisers, bands and KK’s Steel Mill for putting on an amazing event.
