Grandma goes to HRH Sleaze 2024 - Day 1

This weekend Grandma Loves Rock rock went to HRH Sleaze in Leicester. We stayed in an amazing hotel called Voco that was part of the package my hubby booked through HRH.

HRH have always looked after us with their Royalty package.

The event was held in the O2 Leicester and had wonderful staff including security who understood that I could not be scanned due to a medical device I wear, and very quickly found a very polite and caring young woman to check I was safe going in.

This Grandma doesn’t carry weapons lol.  She doesn’t need them pmsl!!

This weekend's event started off on stage two with Smashed, a four piece group who had a fantastic singer with a great voice, the band had three guitar players including the main singer and a drummer. My favourite song was ‘Kicking Side’, well played and fantastic vocals.

It was lovely because following the set they came outside and met some of the audience.

The next band I listened to was Continental Lovers, a very smart four piece group who put on a great set.   I loved the energy of the drummer who wore a very smart white jacket. I really enjoyed the song called “Connection” that’s coming out soon. I would like to listen to them again.

P.S. The bass player looked to me like Stiv Bators.

Band three for me was Roxxi Red.  Grandma was a little concerned when they came on with their choice of clothing but fell in love with them very quickly.

Their lead guitarist was extremely good and the bass guitarist was definitely looking for a good time!  Great top notes from the singer! The band's energy levels were high throughout.

Next band was King Voodoo.

Grandma wants to know why she hasn’t seen them before, she definitely will again, blooming fantastic.

The bass player fell over and basically did the splits on stage and carried on playing!

Grandma really loved them, a great singer got the crowd joining in and the drummer looked great  in his shorts.  The second guitarist was wonderful and Grandma loved that he supported the RBL with one of his lanyards.

Grandma is not going to stalk this band!

And if you believe that you’re daft lol.

Grandma has now moved to the main stage and has settled down to listen to Cobra Cult.  A four piece band with a female singer. Not Grandma's favourite band but that’s not because they were bad, they were just not Grandma's cup of tea.  The audience seemed to like them.

The next band had me at the barrier. The Midnight Devils are one of the best bands I have seen for a long time, this is the 2nd time I have seen them and OMG, fantastic stage show.

I had the lead singer standing at the barrier right in front of me! I will say the drummer is a fantastic musician and the lead guitarist knows how to make his guitar sing.

I came away with money (not real, it had 69 printed on it lol), a plectrum from the lead guitarist and a pink balloon. Grandma is tired but no rest for the wicked as Kickin Valentina are next.

Grandma again really enjoyed Kickin Valentina, great sound and show. I really like it when the band members get close to the crowd.  The crowd definitely got behind them singing along with arms in the air.

The last band for the night was Shiraz Lane, a five piece band with a singer who has a great vocal range and great sound.  The three guitars sounded amazing together, really added to the wonderful wall of noise. I can’t forget the drummer who was also super.

Day one of Sleaze has been amazing and I can’t wait to see and hear what day two will bring, but for now Grandma needs a shower, some food and her bed.
