Grandma Loves Rock is at NWOCR Livefest 3.
Day 1 Grandma loves the KK’s Steelmill great atmosphere, friendly staff, the event was child friendly and Grandma saw several families with young children. Grandma also saw several wheelchair users and a disabled seating area to one side. Plenty of merchandise was available to purchase and also tea, coffee, food and alcohol was available.
1st on today was Ransom, Grandma really loves this band, the drummer is a great drummer, the heart beat of the band, the two guitarist are superb and Grandma loves the vocals from Matt. Ransom definitely got the party started. Grandma loved the title of a song called “Even Nuns Watch Pr.n”
During the performance the band showed pure professionalism when an announcement was made about a medical emergency and a member of the audience needed to be found.
Matt also praised a family for bringing their children to the show and came to the barrier to sing, he used the phrase “great parenting 1 o 1”
Second on was Unknown Refuge. Grandma had not heard or seen them before but really liked them. This was their penultimate gig. Their last gig is in Manchester in 3 weeks. A young 4 piece band, the singer had a wonderful tone to his voice, 2 guitarists and of course a great drummer. Grandma was impressed with the solo sections with the lead guitarist, he made his guitar sound so magical. Grandma can see a great future for this band. Grandma noticed more mobile phones came out for photo taking when the lead guitarist took his top of for the final song and if Grandma had been closer she would have done the same thing
Band three was Jack J Hutchinson, this was a 3 piece, with the drummer, a bass player, and singer who played guitar. Grandma enjoyed the song “Days are gone” great rhythm, fantastic vocals, the next song was their new single that came out yesterday and is called “Road to Hell”, this song has a great drum and bass beat running through it and an amazing guitar solo.
Next on was Sons of Liberty, Grandma has seen these a few times and she really likes them. A 5 piece band, 3 guitarists (Grandmas favourite number) a drummer and a fantastic singer with amazing vocals. Today was all about having a party with friends and that definitely happened. Grandma always likes the stage show this band puts on, great energy from the singer and Grandma loved when he got into the audience and got everyone jumping, pink sunglasses got thrown out into the audience just before he sang “Rich Man, Poor Man Beggar Man Thief”.
The next song was “Walk with you” a song all about mental health, the lead singer was wearing a pink T-shirt that said ‘it’s okay not to be okay’ and he requested anyone not okay to talk to someone. A great message. The pink sun glasses were connected to this message.
Grandma would like to remind anyone suffering with poor mental health that you can call organisations like The Samaritans 24/7 and 111 opt 2 for when you need a little more help.
The next band was Ashen Reach, a four piece group with a female drummer, a guitarist and singer, Joe was of injured so did not perform.
The singer is able to produce an amazing deep throat sound, Grandma enjoyed their new E.P song “Ghost” The vocal range and strength of voice is wonderful with this young man.
Doomsday Outlaw came on next and Grandma was impressed from the start, a band of five with again an amazing singer, three guitarists and a drummer. Grandma loved the song “Turn Me Loose” the singer said it’s a song about him being a “knob head”, his words not Grandma’s lol!!
Grandma did not write much during this act as she was enjoying the music so much, Grandma is going to ask hubby to get tickets for them in the future.
Next on was Collateral and OMG, how amazing is this band! Grandma has fallen in love with a band! If the lead singers jacket goes missing, Grandma has it lol.
Collateral has great stage presence and amazing energy. “It’s All About This Boy” is a great song where Angelo plays the guitar and Grandma really enjoyed listening to it. The audience seemed to enjoy them as well.
Last on today was the VIRGINMARYS. This band is a two piece, a drummer and singer who played the guitar. Grandma was super impressed with them, Grandma really loved the drummer, the best drummer she has ever seen, so much energy when he played, was constantly on the go, the singer has a fantastic voice, strong and clear and a pleasure to listen to. The perfect band to end day 1.
They have a new album coming out in November. Another great band to add to the Grandma wants to see them again!
The final recap on day 1 is bloody brilliant, great bands, great venue, great staff, Great Day!
